The Jefferson County Fairgrounds is made up of 50-plus acres located on Fairgrounds Road in the south part of Madras. Fifteen buildings and barns, situated in a park-like setting, cover just under 100,000 square feet.
Managed by Floyd Bauer, the fairgrounds offers several events on a year round basis, hosting over 80,000 people each year, and using the fairgrounds for approximately 800 event days.
For the convenience of the grounds users, 65 RV spaces with full hook ups were installed in an RV park.
Major events happen every month of the year, from RV shows, travel groups, the Jefferson County Sports and Recreation Show, Gem and Mineral Shows, horse shows, other horse events and rodeos, with the county fair, being the largest event held the last week in July. The facilities are also used for dances, weddings and reunions.
Besides Bauer, the fairgrounds is staffed by secretary Helen Houts and groundskeeper Al Wainwright.
